Lewis Hamilton put an emotional week behind him with a fantastic drive in Monaco. The Brit drove faultlessly all weekend to claim pole position on Saturday, and then win the Grand Prix itself on Sunday, despite the pressure from Max Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel. The week as a whole has been emotionally draining for the world of Formula 1 due to the passing of Niki Lauda, but the Mercedes man let the driving do the talking with a stunning performance.Ahead of the race, all the drivers paid tribute to Niki Lauda, who sadly passed away earlier in the week, by wearing his famous red cap and standing for a minute's silence. All eyes were on the start of the Grand Prix, especially given how tight the first corner is, but everyone got away safely, with Hamilton and Bottas keeping their places in the top two. However, it took just 10 laps for chaos to ensue as Charles Leclerc suffered a serious puncture to his rear wheel, causing the safety car to come out.

Several laps later, the Ferrari man was forced to retire; cutting short his drive at his home Grand Prix.

Then, whilst in the pitstop, Red Bull's Verstappen overtook Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas, albeit with the help from a bit of contact, and came out ahead of the Finn into second.

Due to his actions, the Dutchman got hit with a five-second penalty, but that didn't stop him from challenging the race leader throughout.

With just a few laps left to go, there was contact between the two race leaders, as Verstappen made a last-second effort to overtake the Brit, only to clip him and send them both over the corner.

Luckily for both drivers, the contact was small, and the battle continued.

Hamilton's teammate Bottas didn't have a fruitful afternoon, finishing fourth in the race, however, due to Verstappen's time penalty, he did earn himself a spot on the podium behind Vettel and Lewis.
