Entertainment was in short supply for much of the season at Old Trafford. For 90 minutes on Sunday afternoon, Manchester United fans were able to forget about the season they've just endured and relive the magic of the 1999 Champions League final win over Bayern Munich.Sir Alex Ferguson took charge of the legends game and fittingly, it was the hot seat's current incumbent, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who opened the scoring with a tap-in.Dwight Yorke, Nicky Butt, Louis Saha, and David Beckham also got among the goals, but it was a particularly special day for the Norwegian boss, exactly 20 years on from his heroics in Camp Nou. It really was an occasion to reminisce about happier times at the Theatre of Dreams. The result will have boosted the mood too, even if it was only a friendly.

Try telling that to Jaap Stam, who was not messing about at all, regardless of it not being a competitive fixture.

The 46-year-old left the club under a cloud in 2001 amidst a falling out with Ferguson over comments he made in his autobiography.

The defender claimed that before he signed for United, Ferguson had approached him without PSV Eindhoven's permission.

The Scotsman later regretted the decision to let him go and he went on to shine elsewhere.

In spite of all that, 'Yip Jaap' remains hugely popular among the fans, who haven't forgotten his crunching tackles and no-nonsense approach.

Rather like this:

Calm down Jaap, it's only a game.

These days, Stam is managing in the Eredivisie with PEC Zwolle, a job he took in 2018.

He still has a lot to prove following his largely unsuccessful period in charge of Reading, but it doesn't look like he's changed all that much on the pitch.

How United could do with a centre-half like him now.
