Robert Lewandowski hasn't received the praise he deserves this season.

The Bayern Munich man is consistently one of the best strikers in world football, but it seems he has dropped out of the conversation in recent years.

Perhaps we've become so accustomed to Lewandowski smashing in the goals that his incredible statistics simply aren't so novel anymore.

However, it's about time that changed and now that the German football season has come to a close, it's long overdue that we gave Lewandowski the credit he deserves.

The Polish striker ended his season with the Bundesliga crown, DFB-Pokal trophy and was named the German league's leading scorer for the fourth time.

Lewandowski's superb season

In terms of the cup final, Lewandowski was at the top of his game once again and scored either side of Kingsley Coman's goal in a 3-0 win over RB Leipzig.

His opening strike was truly something special, too, as he produced one of the best headers you'll see all season at Berlin's Olympiastadion.

The Bayern forward finished above the likes of Mohamed Salah, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and even Cristiano Ronaldo in the European Golden Shoe standings.

The world's best number nine?

He 'only' placed in fifth overall with Lionel Messi taking the title, but his tally of 22 goals in the Bundesliga doesn't do his season justice.

When you factor in seven cup goals in just five games, eight strikes in as many Champions League matches and a DFL-Supercup hat-trick, then you start to get the full picture.

It seems to have flown under the radar that Lewandowski has accumulated an astonishing 40 goals in just 47 games as well as - according to Transfermarkt - 13 assists to boot.

That means Messi is the only player to have scored more goals than him in all competitions this season, edging out Kylian Mbappe by a single strike.

Sure, the Bundesliga isn't the world's toughest league and Bayern were disappointing in Europe, but it certainly seems bizarre that Lewandowski's brilliance has been so underrated.

There were plenty of fans heralding him as the best out-and-out striker in the world this season, even if the likes of Sergio Aguero and Luis Suarez would vehemently disagree.

No matter what you think of Lewandowski, though, he continues to prove himself as one of the most ruthless goal-scorers in world football and it's no wonder his statistics have gone viral.

It seems he will be perpetually linked with clubs like Real Madrid and Chelsea but regardless of whether he leaves Bayern, he'll score goals wherever football may take him.
