Villa secure 2-0 win

And the Dutch forward gave Villa the lead in the 44th minute.

Ahmed Elmohamady played a lofted cross into the area and El Ghazi beat his marker to steer the ball home.

It was the 33rd goal that Villa have scored from a cross in the Championship this season, including the play-offs, the most of any team.

Prince William and former Villa striker John Carew, watching the game together, were loving it.

The second half got underway and Villa extended their lead on the hour mark.

El Ghazi cut inside from the left and fired an effort towards goal. The ball looped into the air and John McGinn got to it first, nudging it home after Derby goalkeeper Kelle Roos failed to make contact.

Jack Marriott pulled a goal back for Derby in the 82nd minute but Villa held on for the win.

So it's Aston Villa who will be playing in the Premier League next season, while Lampard will try to get Derby promoted again next year.

The Championship play-off final is billed as the richest game in football, with £170 million on offer to the winner.

And that’s great news for Villa, whose financial woes were exposed after they were beaten by Fulham in last season’s Championship play-off final.

The Villa Park club failed to make a £4m tax payment days after the 1-0 loss and faced a summer of off-the-field issues.

Now, they can put look forward to a bright future.
