Best of enemies – King Kenny and Fergie battle again

Two old foes will be reunited tomorrow in the most historic of cup competitions.

After the departure of Roy Hodgson on Saturday, Kenny Dalglish will take charge of Liverpool for the first time since 1991 and could not face a sterner test as his side take on Premier League leaders Manchester United at Old Trafford.

This mouth-watering prospect will pit Dalglish against old adversary Sir Alex Ferguson and the former will be hoping to upset the odds by progressing to the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The return of Anfield great King Kenny will undoubtedly be well received in the football community, and his opponent tomorrow usually only has good things to say about his fellow Scot.

Sir Alex said: "Kenny was a tremendous player, absolutely tremendous. I would have paid to have seen him play. I loved the way he could hold the ball up and make goals as well as score them."

But mutual respect will be pushed to one side on Sunday in front of a packed house at Old Trafford and the United boss is hopeful star man Wayne Rooney will ensure the Red Devils are in the pot for the next round.

"Wayne was buzzing last week. That is why I am keen to have him in the team and why I will give him every chance to be fit,” said Ferguson.

"Many times Wayne has gone on good runs. He'd score five in a row and then maybe go three or four without scoring.

"Last year he was far more consistent and far more potent in his finishing. Hopefully last week's goal brings that back again."
