Liverpool are being linked with a shock January move for Blackburn Rovers starlet John Banton.

The 18-year-old striker is reportedly unhappy at his current club due to a lack of first team opportunities, and Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is ready to bring the player to Anfield.

The Daily Mirror reports that 'King Kenny' will make the player his first addition since taking the helm on Merseyside, despite the Liverpool manager being linked with a string of top European league strikers.

Luis Suarez, Alvaro Negredo and Johan Elmander have all reportedly emerged as transfer targets for the Barclays Premier League outfit, but the Anfield club's efforts to invest in youth appears to have led them to Banton.

A player who moved to Ewood Park from the Arsenal academy, the forward is reportedly going to be offered a short-term deal with Liverpool with a view to earning a longer term contract with the club.

Banton would likely join the famed Liverpool academy at Melwood, and be used with the U18 and reserve sides for the remainder of the season.

No fee is mentioned, and neither club have confirmed the reports, but the move would signal a clear shift in emphasis from Liverpool towards young players who could become future stars at Anfield.
