Liverpool are being linked with a January move for Wigan Athletic winger Charles N'Zogbia.
The French international was reportedly close to switching Barclays Premier League clubs in the summer, and Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish has earmarked the player as a positive addition for the club in January.
Birmingham were thought to be on the verge of signing the player in August, but the deal fell through at the final hurdle, leaving the player as a prime transfer target in January.
N'Zogbia has stated a desire in the past to move to a bigger club, and the history and heritage of Liverpool could prove to be a key attraction for the player despite the current poor form at Anfield.
The Daily Telegraph reports that Dalglish has drawn up a shortlist of transfer targets alongside director of football strategy at Liverpool, Damien Comolli. £9 million rated N'Zogbia has made the list, alongside Ajax players Luis Suarez and Emanuelson, Villa winger Ashley Young and Belgian starlet Romelu Lukaku.
Frenchman N'Zogbia joined Newcastle United as a youth player in 2004 for a nominal fee in the region of £250,000.
His five years at St. James' Park were fruitful after Sir Bobby Robson brought him to the Toon, and the player would make 118 Premier League appearances for Newcastle United, scoring nine goals in the process.
Wigan signed the player in January '09, but after two seasons at the DW Stadium it appears the player is ready for an exit.
Liverpool have money to spend following the arrival of NESV as the new owners at the club, and chariman John W. Henry is flying in for discussions with regards to the club's transfer policy this week.
The Merseysiders are keen to add an attacking foil for Fernando Torres as they look to ease the burden on their Spanish star, and N'Zogbia could provide Liverpool with that additional X Factor down the left flank.
A bid in the region of £9.5 million should be enough to land the former Newcastle man.
