Manchester City announced on Thursday that Leroy Sane has torn the cruciate ligament in his right knee.

The German went down just 13 minutes into the Community Shield against Liverpool.

It wasn't immediately apparent just how bad the injury would be, however, and the news of such a serious injury has scuppered plans.

There's the obvious loss to City this season - they're losing a top player, after all with no time to find a replacement.

Bayern Munich may be the ones who are missing out, though.

Sane has been linked with a move to Bavaria all summer, with talk of a £110m deal potentially being struck.

Bayern clearly value the winger extremely highly, presumably as a particularly ideal addition after both Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery left the club this summer.

And then there's Sane himself who isn't just losing time out of his career, he's reportedly missing out on a £20.8million-a-year contract with Bayern.

The Daily Mail claim that the German champions were willing to offer him £400k-a-week, assuming they could clinch a deal with City.

That's an absolutely staggering amount of money for what already looked like a dream move for Sane.

He could go back and be the star of the biggest team in Germany, a role that would be set for the rest of his career if things went well.

Not only that but £400k-a-week? It's got to be a gutting addition to an already gutting situation.

Get well soon Sane - fingers crossed he gets his career right back on track.
