Liverpool made an emphatic start to the new Premier League season on Friday night as they beat newcomers Norwich City 4-1 at Anfield.

An own goal from Grant Hanley in the seventh minute spelled the beginning of the end for the Canaries, who found themselves 4-0 down at half-time.

Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Divock Origi grabbed the other goals.

It wasn't quite the same story in the second half, though, as Liverpool created numerous chances but failed to add to their lead.

If anything, Norwich were the stronger side and deservedly scored a consolation goal through Teemu Pukki in the 64th minute.

Conceding somewhat blemished Liverpool's victory and they'll need to improve defensively as the season goes on.

Liverpool's players will be raring to go this campaign as they look to go one better in the Premier League and win the title.

Last year the Reds finished second, one point behind Manchester City on 97, but they did at least win the Champions League to end their trophy drought.

And becoming champions of Europe meant Liverpool's players were finally allowed to touch the 'This is Anfield' sign before the Norwich game.

Jurgen Klopp banned his players from touching the sign upon taking over, saying in 2016: "I've told my players not to touch the 'This Is Anfield' sign until they win something. It's a sign of respect."

That all changed on Friday night, as you can see in the images below of Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum both reaching up as they walk down the tunnel.

What a moment.

Liverpool fans have argued down the years that Henderson should be allowed to touch the 'This is Anfield' sign because he won the 2012 League Cup with them.

But there's no doubt that touching it last night as a Champions League winner and Liverpool's captain will have felt even more special.
