Manchester City cruised to a 5-0 victory over West Ham on Saturday to better Liverpool's start to the new Premier League season.Raheem Sterling's hat-trick and goals from Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero sealed all three points, but the biggest talking point from the game was VAR.City thought they had scored a perfectly good goal to make it 3-0 when David Silva played in Sterling and the Englishman squared for Jesus to finish. But a review from the video assistant referee confirmed Sterling was fractionally offside when Silva's pass was played.Mike Dean received word of the decision and awarded a free-kick to West Ham, sparking cheers from the home fans.Check out a video of Jesus' goal and then VAR in action below.City having a goal ruled out seemed to motivate West Ham's players as they created a few chances, but in the 75th minute Sterling doubled his tally to put the game out of sight.Riyad Mahrez played in the England international and he made no mistake by looping the ball over Lucasz Fabianski.VAR was once again called to check if Sterling was offside and the review showed he was just about onside. Watch the goal below. But was VAR finished there? Of course not.City were awarded a penalty late on when Mahrez was tripped inside the box. Aguero stepped up and had his effort saved. However, VAR determined that Declan Rice was encroaching when Aguero took his penalty, meaning it had to be retaken. Aguero did the business second time round.

What a mess. Modern technology, eh?
