Manchester City made a statement on the opening weekend of the 2019/20 Premier League season.

The defending champions beat West Ham United 5-0 in what was a very comfortable victory at the Olympic Stadium.

Gabriel Jesus opened the scoring on 25 minutes before Raheem Sterling scored a second-half hat-trick - Sergio Aguero also scored from the penalty spot.

The Brazilian could have had a second but VAR ruled his finish offside - it was the first goal disallowed by technology in the top-flight.

That didn't make a difference for Pep Guardiola's side though, who started as they mean to go on.

In fact, Kyle Walker came flying out of the blocks.

The City full-back provided the assist for Jesus' goal, sending a cross into the box after absolutely blazing down the right flank.

His speed had the BT Sport commentators going crazy and at half-time, pundits in the studio analysed the Englishman's pace.

Walker reached a top speed of 22mph, which quite frankly, is ridiculous. Check the clip below.

Incredible speed from the City man. Joe Cole might have had the best reaction to the incident, saying: "He's actually broken the speed limit in residential areas!"

It's taken Walker just 25 minutes to clock a speed that probably won't be beaten by anyone else this season.

Fulham's Timothy Fosu-Mensah was the fastest player in the 2018/19 campaign, reaching speeds of 35.32 km/h.

That converts to 21.94 mph - meaning that on matchday one, Walker has already run faster than anyone else did last season. Crazy.

He wasn't the only City player that impressed on Saturday though. Guardiola's side were superb, especially in the second half of their win against West Ham.

Sterling was named Man of the Match and rightly so for his hat-trick performance, but Jesus, Rodri and Kevin De Bryne also played very well.

Judging on this performance, we could well be seeing City lift the title again come May.
