Eyebrows were raised when Atletico Madrid forked out £113 million for 19-year-old Joao Felix earlier this summer. The teenage forward had only played one full season of senior football with Benfica when he was signed by the Spanish club. He had also only made one appearance for the Portugal national team. But Atletico needed a replacement for Antoine Griezmann, who would leave the Wanda Metropolitano for Barcelona, and their coaches and scouting staff were convinced that Felix was a youngster with the potential to become world-class.In order to secure his services, Atleti were forced to make Felix their club-record signing, the most expensive Portuguese footballer ever, and the fourth most expensive signing in history. This put a huge amount of pressure on the Portuguese starlet; however, based on his eye-catching pre-season performances, you have to wonder if he even knows the meaning of the word.

Felix has been sensational in pre-season, starring in last month’s 7-3 victory over Real Madrid and the 3-0 win over MLS All-Stars last week.

But his performance against Juventus in the International Champions Cup on Saturday evening is arguably the best of the lot so far.

Felix opened the scoring midway through the first half with a cute finish from a Kieran Trippier cross…

Sami Khedira then equalised for Juve before Felix doubled Atleti’s advantage with a stunning finish from Thomas Lemar’s sumptuous pass…

Felix’s performance - against a defence featuring Giorgio Chiellini and Matthijs de Ligt, remember - led to him being described as ‘scary’ on social media…

Journalist Lee Roden says Felix is the best teenager he’s ever seen live.

Many others, meanwhile, believe he looks an absolute bargain at £113 million (€120 million) if that’s possible!

There was also a brilliant moment when Felix put his arm on the shoulder of his compatriot, Ronaldo.

The present and future of football right there.

"Cristiano Ronaldo has won five Ballon d'Or trophies and this is the dream of every player,” Felix told ESPN earlier this summer. “Obviously I would like to be like Cristiano."

You’re on the right path, Joao.
