Portsmouth picked up their first points of the League One season with a 2-0 victory against Tranmere Rovers at Fratton Park on Sunday.Ben Close opened the scoring after 27 minutes via a breathtaking volley into the top corner from 30 yards. It was the midfielder’s second goal of the season contender in the space of a few days off the back of his similarly brilliant effort during Tuesday’s EFL Cup win over Birmingham. But despite dominating Tranmere for much of the 90 minutes, Pompey struggled to put the visitors to bed until 15 minutes before the final whistle.Tom Naylor did the honours, lashing a loose ball into the net after Paul Downing’s header was cleared off the line.

It was an assured display from Kenny Jacket’s men - one that Will Ferrell had the pleasure of taking in from the directors' box.

Portsmouth owner and former Disney CEO Michael Eisner invited him along to watch their first home outing of the 2019-20 campaign.

Ferrell travelled to the match with Eisner’s son, Breck, who posted a picture of himself with the Hollywood legend on their way to the stadium.

Fortunately for the Eisners, their guest was treated to an impressive display.

The Elf and Anchorman star repaid the gesture by posing for photos with fans before kick-off.

He made made his way to Pompey’s dressing room after the final whistle to do the same with members of the squad.

What a way to celebrate their first win of the campaign.

Ferrell is no stranger to football.

He owns MLS outfit LAFC, who boast a 14-point lead at the top of the western conference with two-thirds of the season gone.

Portsmouth aren’t likely to enjoy such dominance of League One, though.

They’re hoping to return to the Championship for the first time since 2012 after a play-off semi-final loss against Sunderland saw them miss out on promotion last season.

Pompey will have a chance to avenge that agonising result next Saturday when the Black Cats host them at the Stadium of Light.
