The Premier League season is well underway as we enter the final fixtures of the opening weekend of top-flight action.

Yesterday saw Man City show exactly why they’ll be pushing for the title again this season with a 5-0 win over West Ham after Liverpool beat Norwich 4-1 on Friday night.

Brighton, Burnley and Tottenham also tasted victory whilst the points were shared between Crystal Palace and Everton and Bournemouth and Sheffield United.

And former Spurs and Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp has pin-pointed ten players to keep an eye on for the remainder of the season, via the Daily Mail.

Max Aarons – Norwich

Aarons broke into the senior team at Carrow Road last year and will be looking to make a name for himself in the Premier League this campaign.

The full-back was named in the Championship Team of the Year last time around and was awarded the EFL Young Player of the Season award too.

And Redknapp highlighted his awards and added: “Keep an eye on this boy. He will get game time under Daniel Farke, whose faith in him was rewarded last year.

“Norwich were quick to tie Aarons to a new five-year deal as they noticed his worth.”

Phil Foden - Man City

It’s always going to take someone special to grace the stage at senior level for Man City, especially if you’re under the age of 20.

19-year-old Foden made his debut two years ago and has since gone on to make 18 league appearances for the club and has very much impressed.

“Foden still played his part (last season), scoring a vital goal in City's 1-0 victory over Tottenham that maintained their winning streak en route to the title”, Redknapp said.

“I want to see more of him this season and believe we will.

“I'm hoping this will be a breakthrough year because he looks ready to make that step up. I'm a massive fan, so let's see how Pep Guardiola uses him.”

Jack Grealish – Aston Villa

Villa skipper Grealish has returned to the top-flight with his boyhood club and is another one to watch, according to Redknapp.

“I look at Grealish and get the feeling that he could be the man to lead Aston Villa to safety this season.

“The midfielder was once seen as a bit of a rascal but he looks to have grown up.

“He's become Villa's talisman and the captain's armband suits him. He's a great dribbler and some of his strikes are wonder-goals.”

Rhian Brewster - Liverpool

The 19-year-old is the reason Jurgen Klopp hasn’t spent big for a new striker, according to Redknapp.

The club think so highly of the youngster that they offered him a five-year contract last summer, despite not making a single league appearance.

“I suspect the reason why Liverpool have not spent big on cover for Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino is because Jurgen Klopp rates this boy so highly”, the former Red said.

“You will remember Brewster from England's Under 17 World Cup triumph in 2017, when he won the Golden Boot with eight goals.

“His injuries last season were devastating but this natural finisher is now back fit and raring to go.

“Brewster may only start a few games for Liverpool but the 19-year-old forward is guaranteed to get opportunities.”

James Maddison – Leicester

Redknapp feels like Maddison could be wearing an England shirt soon after the 22-year-old created 100 chances last season, more than anyone in the division.

“The England team is crying out for players who can receive the ball on the half-turn then weave their magic.

“This midfield playmaker could do that for Gareth Southgate, and I hope he has a big season.

“He's fortunate to have a boss like Brendan Rodgers at Leicester who will encourage him to express himself.”

Che Adams – Southampton

Adams is a new kid on the block in the Premier League after signing from Birmingham City in the summer.

However, Redknapp feels the 23-year-old can become a defender’s nightmare and take his Championship form into the top-flight.

“There are so many players in the Championship crying out for that chance.

"Adams got his after Southampton snapped him up for £15m, and I think that will turn out to be a good bit of business. Defenders will hate playing against this guy.

“He is powerful, hangs on shoulders and runs well with the ball. He scored 22 in 46 games for Birmingham in the Championship last season."

Felipe Anderson – West Ham

Redknapp is also expecting Anderson to flourish this season and has warned West Ham fans that he could make a big-money move next summer.

The Brazilian joined the Hammers last year and has gone on to bag nine goals in 36 league appearances.

“The Brazilian is a superstar in waiting and I expect we'll see that side of him this season.

“They have signed Sebastien Haller for £45m but I also think Anderson, who cost £36m when he joined from Lazio last summer, is capable of reaching that next level.

“Sorry West Ham fans, but I think we'll see Anderson enjoy a stand-out season and that big clubs will come calling with £60m-plus bids next summer.”

Nicolas Pepe – Arsenal

A new arrival at the Emirates this summer was Pepe, joining from Lille.

After impressing in France, he’ll be hoping to do the same in England and Redknapp claims the forward can ‘add X-factor’:

“Arsenal finished last season with 467 shots — the 11th highest in the Premier League. The other Big Six clubs plus Leicester, Everton, Crystal Palace, Southampton and Wolves had more attempts on goal.

“So it wasn't only in defence where Unai Emery's side were falling short.

“Pepe, a £72m club-record buy from Lille, can add X-factor. He is an exciting signing and Arsenal are a team to watch this year.”

Dele Alli – Spurs

Alli has already very much proven himself in the Premier League after signing for Spurs four years ago.

However, Redknapp highlighted his dip in goal scoring form last season and feels like he needs to regain his anger:

“The midfielder scored 18 Premier League goals in 2016-17, nine in 2017-18 and just five in 2018-19. Sorry Dele, but you're simply too good to score only five times in 25 games.

“Hamstring issues did not help but I also think he has lost that notorious nasty streak. He needs to get that back.

“I want to see that anger again — that devilment we saw in his early days at Spurs. It got him in trouble occasionally but he's a better player when playing on the edge.”

Mason Mount - Chelsea

After Mason Mount impressed under Frank Lampard at Derby last season, it’s no surprise that a loan spell away from Chelsea wasn’t on the cards this time around.

The midfielder and the new Blues boss proved to be a match made in heaven and Redknapp highlighted him as another one-to-watch.

“Spending another season learning from Lampard — one of the greatest midfielders to grace the game — will be huge for Mount.

“He thrived on loan at Derby in the Championship and has continued to show his potential in pre-season. Chelsea cannot make any signings because of their ban but Mount stood out in their friendlies, used at No 10 or wide in a midfield diamond.

“He has that yard of pace and likes to score. Everything is in place for him to go far and when he does get the nod he can have that impact.”
