It was an exciting summer at the Emirates after Unai Emery made a raft of rather astute looking signings.

The London side took everyone by surprise after initial reports suggested that they only had a paltry £40 million to spend on new recruits.

However, after securing deals for Dani Ceballos, William Saliba, Kieran Tierney, David Luiz and marquee signing Nicolas Pepe, Arsenal look well set to mount a charge on the top four.

Ceballos, Luiz and Pepe all started from the bench, while Tierney failed to make the match-day squad after his deadline day arrival.

Instead, Gooners had to make do with most of the old guard from last season, including a certain Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Mkhitaryan was simply woeful in the first-half at St James' Park, loosing the ball far too regularly while also picking up a yellow card.

In fact, Mkhitaryan coughed the ball up a staggering 15 times in the opening half.

He simply could not get into the game and wound up looking miles out of his depth.

And, after his disastrous effort in the opening stanza, it seems Arsenal fans have had enough.
Gooners took to Twitter in the droves calling for Mkhitaryan to be hauled off and never take the field in an Arsenal shirt ever again.

Crikey.

It was a merciless tirade from fans who have clearly given up on the Armenian.

You can't help but feel that Mkhitaryan will struggle for regular football once the posse of new boys are match fit.

If he is consigned to the bench for the rest of the season, however, we don't think Arsenal fans will mind.
