'You haven't got the minerals' - Rio Ferdinand slams Paulo Dybala for snubbing Manchester United

Talk of Paulo Dybala's future entertained us all during the final week of the transfer window.

He was first linked with a sensational swap move to Manchester United, with Juventus interested in taking Romelu Lukaku to Turin.

While those negotiations were on-going, there were also reports that Tottenham were ready to make a big bid to bring the Argentine to north London instead.

Issues over his wages and image rights meant that both of those deals broke down and it seems Dybala is staying in Italy.

The prospect of a world-class forward arriving at Old Trafford certainly excited Man United fans, who were gutted when things fell through.

But club legend Rio Ferdinand believes that was the best outcome because he doesn't think Dybala has 'the right minerals' to play for United.

"A lot of players have declined coming to Man Utd in recent years. They've chosen somewhere else," he told the Daily Star, per The Sun

"But I don't know how Dybala had the audacity to turn them down when he's on the bench at Juventus. He needs to start playing some football.

"Maybe he's thinking: 'I want to be Champions League or I'll sit on the bench. I'd rather do that than play at Man Utd'.

"Well, I'm happy he didn't come, then because you haven't got the right minerals that I want in a Man Utd player."

Ferdinand's take is one shared by plenty of fans. If you don't want to play for the badge, don't bother coming.

Thankfully, it seems that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is building a team full of the right 'minerals'.

United smashed Chelsea 4-0 in their opening Premier League game on Sunday, with Daniel James and Anthony Martial adding to a Marcus Rashford double.

In fact, it didn't look like they missed Lukaku at all. Perhaps not signing Dybala as a replacement was a blessing in disguise.
