Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have been the best players in world football for the past decade.

Luka Modric may have broken the pair’s 10-year duopoly in terms of the Ballon d’Or but there’s still very little doubt that Messi and Ronaldo are head and shoulders above of the competition.

Instead of just appreciating them for incredible players, fans will always argue over which superstar is better.

Every time one of them puts in a world-class performance, there are constant comparisons with the other.

In truth, it’s pretty tiresome.

However, it’s now time for Ronaldo to compare himself to Messi.

When asked how he differs to his rival, the Portuguese pointed out that he’s won the Champions League for different clubs.

“The difference with Messi is that I played for several clubs and won the Champions League with different clubs,” said CR7.

“I was top scorer in the Champions League six seasons in a row. There aren’t many players who won five Champions League trophies, so this is why I feel that I can identity myself with this tournament.

“Messi is an excellent player who will be remembered not just for his Ballon d’Or wins, but also for having improved – like me – year after year.

Of course, Ronaldo won one Champions League with Manchester United before winning four editions with Real Madrid, including three in a row.

That takes his Champions League tally to five, with Messi having only won four with Barcelona - his most recent in 2015.

And Ronaldo has bagged 126 in the competition during his career, 14 more than Messi has managed.
