Liverpool won the UEFA Super Cup last night after beating Chelsea 5-4 in a penalty shootout.

Tammy Abraham missed the crucial spot kick, handing the Reds their second trophy in just three months.

The game finished 2-2 after extra-time, with Sadio Mane scoring a brace and Chelsea's goals coming from Olivier Giroud and Jorginho.

It was a very even game throughout, with N'Golo Kante easily the best player on the pitch during the 120 minutes of action.

The Frenchman was thrown back into the starting XI and oozed class in the middle of the park.

He defended brilliantly and was a constant threat in attack.

However, the one thing Kante cannot do is mark a towering centre-back from a corner.

But that's exactly what happened in Istanbul last night.

Footage quickly went viral of Kante trying to mark Virgil van Dijk from a corner and it's just fantastic.

Most centre-backs struggle to mark the 6'3" Van Dijk, so what chance does Kante - who stands at 5'6" - have?

Fortunately for Chelsea, the ball wasn't perfectly placed onto the head of the Dutchman to score.

You surely have to question Frank Lampard's decision, especially when both Andreas Christensen and Kurt Zouma were on the pitch at the same time.

It's not like Liverpool are the biggest team in the world and Van Dijk is by far their biggest aerial threat.

Sometimes, things in football well and truly baffle you and you'll have to go a long way to find an incident more confusing than this one.
