Liverpool have won their first trophy of the season.

At the start of the campaign, Jurgen Klopp’s side had seven chances to win silverware.

Their first opportunity to lift a trophy came in the Community Shield against Manchester City.

However, a penalty shootout defeat to Manchester City meant Liverpool wouldn’t win an unprecedented seven trophies during the 2019/20.

However, they may still win six.

That’s because after a 2-2 draw after extra-time against Chelsea, Liverpool triumphed on penalties to lift the Super Cup.

One down, five to go.

That Super Cub win may not mean too much for fans in the coming weeks.

However, it might be more important than they originally thought.

That’s because that trophy win makes Liverpool the most successful side in England.

It was Liverpool’s 43rd trophy win, surpassing Manchester United’s tally of 42.

Arsenal (30), Chelsea (24) and Aston Villa (20) complete the top-five.

After winning their second European trophy in three months, Klopp paid tribute to Adrian - who was the hero in the penalty shootout saving from Tammy Abraham.

"What a story. ADRIAN! Like Rocky after he lost against Apollo Creed," Klopp joked on BT Sport.

"He's really loud in the dressing room already. The Spanish emotions come through. It's so nice for him, I don't think he's won a lot in his life, so it's so nice to win a big one."

Liverpool now need to recover and prepare for their trip to the south coast to face Southampton on Saturday.

After losing just once last season and still not winning the Premier League, Klopp will only be too aware that they simply cannot afford any slip-ups this early in the campaign.
