Adrian was the hero for Liverpool in their UEFA Super Cup win over Chelsea on Wednesday evening.

The Spanish goalkeeper saved Tammy Abraham’s decisive spot-kick in the shootout after the two Premier League clubs had drawn 2-2 after extra-time.

His heroics came just nine days after he signed for the club.

Adrian, 32, was released by West Ham at the end of last season and was without a club until August 5.

That’s when Jurgen Klopp made the decision to sign him following Simon Mignolet’s departure.

So Adrian has gone from being without a club to being the star in a UEFA Super Cup win in the space of nine days. Fair play.

Understandably, the shot-stopper was ecstatic after calming the first honour of his career.

“This is great. To get a title is magnificent - and to win in this way, obviously is more than double happy,” he said at full-time, per the Liverpool Echo.

“I am really proud for all the team-mates, for the fans that came to support us tonight.

“And also for myself because I (had an) easy debut at Anfield like I did on Friday (against Norwich City) because Ali got an injury.

“I don't know, goalkeeper life is like this. We need to be ready for everything, so I came to show that Adrian is at a great level and tonight was a great moment, saving that penalty.”

Adrian’s story is pretty remarkable. Yet centre-back Virgil van Dijk always had faith in him that he could do something special.

“I said before the game that anything can happen in a final and in the end the penalties decided the game," Van Dijk told BT Sport, per BBC Sport.

"I told Adrian before the penalties he could be the hero - he did it so I'm happy for him and for the club."

He’s certainly made the most of Alisson Becker’s injury.
