Barcelona are desperate to re-sign Neymar before the European transfer deadline on September 2.

The Brazilian departed the Camp Nou back in 2017 for Paris Saint-Germain in a £198m deal, but he's now realised that his decision has seen his career regress in the last two years.

Neymar wants to return to the club that made him a global superstar and play alongside Lionel Messi once again - the man who's shadow he foolishly wanted to escape.

But re-signing him has proved tough, with PSG demanding an extortionate fee for the 27-year-old.

Then there is the obvious question; do Barca actually need Neymar?

In Messi, Luis Suarez, Ousmane Dembele, Antoine Griezmann and Philippe Coutinho, the Blaugrana possess the most formidable attacking department in world football.

And Barca legend Hristo Stoichkov is adamant that his former club should not re-sign Neymar.

The Bulgarian cult hero told Univision: “Barcelona does not need Neymar.

“He has no place because there are already important players. There is [Ousmane] Dembele, Griezmann, [Luis] Suarez and[Lionel] Messi.

“Where is he going to play? He would be a bomb inside the locker room. For my part, I don't want him to come back.

“Sure, there is a group of players who want him to return and ask the president to make an effort, but Barca will not spend a single euro bringing back because they have no money to pay PSG.”

He really hasn't held back.

Neymar's off-field issues at PSG have been well-documented and he has clashed with teammates in the French capital - mainly Edinson Cavani.

However, he is reportedly a popular man in the Barca dressing room, with the likes of Messi and Suarez said to be eager for him to return.

The debate about whether Barca need Neymar back is not going away for quite some time.
