There was concern earlier this summer that La Liga will not be able to be viewed in the UK.

No company purchased the rights to show Spain's top tier for the 2019/20 season by the July 25 deadline.

“After assessing all bids and required additional documentation from participating bidders, La Liga has declared the tender null and void because no satisfactory bids were received,” Joris Evers, head of communications for La Liga, said, per Football Espana.

“La Liga thanks all participants in the tender for their interest and shall inform soon about next steps.”

However, fans can now breathe a sigh of relief after it was announced that ITV will broadcast at least the first three weeks of the season.

ITV brought the final few months of the 2018/19 La Liga season back to free-to-air TV and they are doing the same for this campaign.

View the confirmed broadcast schedule on ITV4 below:

Matchday 1) Friday August 16 - Athletic Club vs FC Barcelona – 8pm BST

Matchday 2) Sunday August 25 - FC Barcelona vs Real Betis – 8pm BST

Matchday 3) Sunday September 1 - Villarreal CF vs Real Madrid – 8pm BST

Great news. The La Liga season officially starts tomorrow where reigning champions Barcelona travel to Athletic Bilbao.

Lionel Messi has been dealing with a calf injury and is doubtful to play, but summer acquisitions Frenkie de Jong and Antoine Griezmann are expected to make their debuts.

And UK viewers will be able to watch the action for free on ITV.

ITV are then broadcasting Barcelona's first home game of the season against Betis a week later.

While viewers will also get the chance to see Zinedine Zidane's new look Real Madrid side for their clash against Villarreal on September 1.

Weekly highlights of all the La Liga action will also be shown on both ITV and ITV4 following each Matchday.
