Chelsea may have lost the UEFA Super Cup to Liverpool on Wednesday, but there were plenty of reasons for Frank Lampard to be positive.

His side dominated large portions of the game and matched Liverpool in midfield despite having two days less to prepare for the game.

There were some fantastic individual performances, too, such as Christian Pulisic, who assisted Olivier Giroud's 36th-minute opener and was a constant threat on the wing.

Mason Mount also did well after coming on in the 73rd minute, while Giroud's link-up play was typically superb.

However, Chelsea's Man of the Match and arguably the best player on the pitch was N'Golo Kante, who recently returned from a knee injury but dominated in the middle.

Lampard gave the Frenchman the freedom to roam alongside Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic and, as expected, he was everywhere.

Whether it was winning back possession in Chelsea's defensive third or supporting an attack, Kante was constantly involved.

He played the full 120 minutes as the game went to penalties and even after telling Lampard at half-time in extra-time that his "legs were dead", he didn't stop running.

Kante's highlights against Liverpool have now emerged and what makes them so impressive is the fact he was only half fit.

If that's how good Kante is at 50%, imagine how good he's going to be for Chelsea when he's firing on all cylinders.

Last season the 28-year-old was deployed in a more attacking role under Maurizio Sarri and Lampard opted for the same tactic against Liverpool.

Chelsea fans would much rather see him sat in front of the defence, but Kante himself admitted after the game in Istanbul that he likes playing further forward.

"I like to play in this position, this is where I played last year," he told reporters. "The coach asked me to play in this position, I like to do it."
