It feels so good to have the Premier League back.

Going three months without the world's most competitive league certainly takes some patience, but excitement is never higher than when all 20 teams return to action in August.

The first weekend of the season sees fans fussing over their Fantasy Football teams, going all-in on their accumulators and putting their neck on the line with a full Premier League table prediction.

And although the opening game-week didn't provide too many shocks, there were was no shortage of goals and VAR drama to ensure English football fans were hooked all over again.

Manchester City picked up where they left off with an absolute mauling of West Ham United, while their closest rivals Liverpool won in similarly spectacular fashion against Norwich City.

2019/20 Premier League season

There were also victories for the north London duo of Tottenham and Arsenal, but Manchester United took the major headlines by putting Chelsea to the sword in a 4-0 thrashing.

For those aforementioned fans who did a full table prediction, it gave the chance to review their 1-20 rankings and establish just how accurate or inaccurate they might be when May rolls around.

However, it also allows some of the 'supercomputers' out there to add some more statistics to their forecasts and give a more precise prediction of the 2019/20 table.

Predicted Premier League table

That's most certainly the case with FiveThirtyEight.com who are world-renowned for their predictions on everything from politics, economics, science and sport.

Bearing that in mind, they have finally drawn up their prediction for the Premier League now that the season is underway and it makes for interesting reading - check it out in full here:

If you thought the table would be completely misled by the opening round of fixtures, you thought wrong.

Perhaps one of the most interesting results is Chelsea - despite being slaughtered in their first game - reaching the Champions League places ahead of both United and Arsenal.

And there's double disappointment for Liverpool who, alongside winding up in second once again, find themselves a yawning eight points behind forecasted winners City.

In fact, after just one game of the season, the data analysts have slapped City with a whopping 61% chance of retaining their title and Liverpool are deemed less than half as likely at 27%.

It's also anticipated to be a rough year for the promoted teams with Norwich, Sheffield United and Aston Villa all expected to return to the Championship after just one season.

However, only time will tell whether the data analysts are right and Pep Guardiola will be celebrating all over again. It's a marathon and not a sprint, after all.
