Women's Tennis: Cori Gauff to participate in the US Open

Citi Open - Qualifying 2

15-year-old tennis star Cori Gauff, also known as Coco, has received a wild card and will be playing in the upcoming US Open later this month.

This will be Coco's second Grand Slam following her impressive performance during Wimbledon.

The young tennis player who beat her idol Venus Williams during her Wimbledon debut is a rising star in tennis.

Coco rose from 313th to 140th in the Women's Tennis Ranking after the tournament. Due to her age, there are limitations for her competing professionally during tours and there a limited number of wildcards she can accept. However, the US Open can overlook these limitations and allow Coco to play in the Grand Slam.

Coco is one of many women who has received a singles open wildcard. This includes tennis stars Samantha Stosur, Cat McNally and Francesca Di Lorenzo.
