Romelu Lukaku set to miss Inter Milan's first Serie A game due to being overweight

Romelu Lukaku’s time at Manchester United will not be remembered too fondly by supporters of the club.

While there were goals at the start of his Old Trafford stint, his reputation quickly went downhill to the point where he pretty much became a meme.

His dreadful first touch was often the subject of jokes across social media and he just didn’t look right in a United shirt.

But Inter Milan saw fit to spend around £75m on Lukaku this summer, with Juventus also interested in Belgiums’s record goal scorer.

However, Inter boss Antonio Conte will probably not be happy with his marquee signing right now, because he is set to miss the club’s opening Serie A game against Lecce.

The reason? Because he has not slimmed down enough since his arrival in Milan.

Tancredi Palmeri reports that Lukaku turned up weighing 104kg and he has failed to get himself down to the 100kg mark before the start of the season.

Palmeri posted on Twitter: “So it appears @GNev2 had the right inside info: Lukaku showed up at Inter weighting 104kg, and has yet to get within 100kg as requested.

“Being still out of shape, he will likely miss first official Serie A game next week.”

Not exactly the best start…

Lukaku was often criticised for his physique during his time at United, with many believing that he was carrying too much mass.

The Belgian is renowned for his strength and bulky muscles, but those attributes appeared to hinder his performances and athleticism.

If he can slim down to the same physique he had during his time at Everton, Lukaku will be a huge threat in Serie A.

Got to to put the work in though, Romelu.
