BT Sport apologise after Paul Ince makes X-rated gesture towards Chris Sutton

  • Kobe Tong

Admit it, we’ve all become frustrated with Chris Sutton’s punditry over the years.

The ex-Blackburn Rovers striker is a mainstay on the BT Sport sofa and has gained a reputation for standing by his often controversial opinions with an unwavering stubbornness.

Don’t get us wrong, Sutton’s analysis can often be incredibly entertaining and that’s especially the case when he’s pitted against Robbie Savage on their Early Kick-Off programme.

However, he’s never far from a comment that causes instant bewilderment, with his declaration that Virgil van Dijk is the Premier League’s greatest ever Dutchman being right up there.

And it seems that his colleague Paul Ince was also getting rather frustrated this morning, even if Sutton didn’t deliver a quote that had everyone on Twitter tearing their hair out.

Ince and Sutton on BT Sport

Ince was renowned for his tough playing style during spells with Manchester United, Liverpool and Inter Milan with some of those old traits appearing to creep into his punditry.

That’s because footage appeared to show Ince making a ‘w****r sign’ at Sutton live on BT Sport, just as their discussion programme was about to cut to advertising.

Ince was seen shaking his hand, in the same vein as some football fans to referees, just a few moments after both Sutton and him became involved in some lively debates.

Caught making X-rated gesture

While Sutton can’t be identified as the recipient with 100% certainty, yet there can be no doubting the gesture when – according to the Daily Record – BT quickly apologised for the clip.

It will come as little surprise that the gaffe caused great amusement across social media, so check out the best video down below:

Ince must have gone as red as a United jersey when he learnt that his gesture made the broadcast.

Of course, no doubt the sign was made in good spirit and wasn’t some kind of malicious attack on Sutton, but it still violates the expected standards of pre-21:00 television.

From the perspective of football fans, though, it gave them an amusing moment before the second round of Premier League fixtures even began.

No doubt, there are also plenty of people who would have wanted to make that gesture to Sutton’s face anyway, but Ince got their first in the most public fashion imaginable
