Adrian is in dreamland at the moment.

After being benched for the majority of West Ham’s season last time around, the Spaniard is now standing between the sticks for Liverpool.

The Champions League winners had to call upon Adrian to replace Alisson after his opening day injury.

And after impressing during their Super Cup win over Chelsea, albeit nearly getting injured himself, the goalkeeper remained in the net when Liverpool travelled to Southampton yesterday.

However, despite making some good saves throughout the game, he did gift the Saints a late goal and a path to claw back from a two-goal deficit.

Sadio Mane put the Reds in front on the stroke of half-time before Roberto Firmino added his name to the scoresheet with 20 minutes remaining.

Things looked to be riding smoothly for the visitors until the 83rd minute when Virgil van Dijk played the ball back to Adrian.

The Spaniard, with all the time in the world, took a touch before booting the ball straight at former Red Danny Ings who found the back of the net.

Luckily, Jurgen Klopp’s men did hang on for the three points.

And the Reds boss jokingly said after the game that Adrian was only matching Alisson’s mistakes because he’d already played well like him.

Klopp said: “Adrian must have thought 'I played well like Alisson, so I need to make the same mistake he did.'"

A bit of an odd comment to make, Jurgen.

But at least he’s not reading too much into Adrian’s mistake.

Alisson has been a great asset to the Liverpool side but like his successor did yesterday, he has gifted a couple of goals too.

Some risky footwork on the edge of the Leicester box led to a Rachid Ghezzal goal at the King Power Stadium last season.

That came before he dropped the ball and conceded a penalty in a pre-season friendly against Lyon in July too.

Unfortunately for Liverpool, goalkeeping mishaps seem to be a reoccurring nightmare.

Remember Simon Mignolet’s failed attempt to save Fernandinho’s shot from a tight angle at Wembley in the 2016 Capital One Cup?

Or maybe Loris Karius’ howler in the Champions League final against Real Madrid two years later?

Luckily for Adrian, though, it didn’t prove to be that important, but it did give the Reds a bit of a scare nonetheless.
