Be kind to your nearest Manchester City fan today, because they're probably still coping with the disappointment of their draw with Tottenham.Mauricio Pochettino needs to be scientifically classed as their kryptonite after, for the second time in just four months, they were saved from outright defeat at the Etihad Stadium by VAR.The Citizens looked like they were swaggering their way to victory at half-time when a Kevin de Bruyne masterclass had carved out goals for Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero. However, with the very ruthlessness that had seen them first equalise through Erik Lamela, Spurs hit back from a set-piece as Lucas Moura headed home off the bench. And the moment that the game will be remembered for: Gabriel Jesus celebrating what he thought was a last-minute winner, only to discover the goal had been chalked off by VAR.

VAR denies Man City the victory

The very same thing happened to Raheem Sterling in April and while this didn't mean as much as Champions League progression, it still pulled the rug from underneath wild City celebrations.

Although there was certainly plenty of controversy surrounding Aymeric Laporte's 'handball', it will have Liverpool fans rubbing their hands together even at this early stage of the season.

And one of the most intriguing permutations of the draw affected Oleksandr Zinchenko, who has been impressing Pep Guardiola with his performances on the defensive flank.

An end to Zinchenko's record

In fact, the Ukrainian had become such a good luck charm for City's men that he even amassed a Premier League record of going 23 matches without losing or drawing a single one.

But all good things must come to an end and with Zinchenko featuring in the Spurs disappointment, VAR robbed him of both his record and the all-important three points.

It gives extra reason for Tottenham to bow down to the VAR gods, but also outlines just how superb City have been in recent months with Zinchenko in their back-line.

Besides, it's only the second time that City have even dropped Premier League points in 2019, with their only other slip-up coming with a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United in January.

That means that the Tottenham result brought an end to 15 consecutive victories and now Liverpool - who have won their last 11 matches - boast the longest streak in the competition.

One thing that Zinchenko still has going for him, though, is an unbeaten record in the Premier League and it will take a spectacular display for anyone to rob him of that this season.
