David de Gea told to have extra training sessions at Manchester United

Manchester United v Cardiff City - Premier League

It’s safe to say, Manchester United couldn’t have hoped for a better start to the season.

The Reds were thrown into the deep end straight away with an opening day clash with Chelsea at Old Trafford, but the hosts cruised to victory.

Marcus Rashford netted either side of a 65th minute Anthony Martial goal before Daniel James bagged on his league debut as United ran out 4-0 winners.

It proved to be a great performance from the Reds but it seems there is still room for improvement.

That’s because Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had dished out extra training sessions to a few of his players.

It has been reported by The Sun that Rashford and Martial, who both scored on the opening day, are putting in extra work in order to improve their partnership.

But it doesn’t stop there.

David de Gea has also been sent for extra training sessions despite keeping a clean sheet last weekend.

Solskjaer reportedly wants the United shot-stopper to focus on playing the ball out from the back and improving his footwork.

The reason behind this could be because of the new rule which was introduced whereby two defenders can be inside the box at goal kicks.

De Gea is renowned for being one of, if not the, best goalkeeper in world football and United fans will be hoping this season won’t be his last at Old Trafford.

The Spaniard’s contract runs out at the end of this campaign and is yet to put pen to paper on a new bumper deal which could see him become the most expensive goalkeeper.

For now, though, his focus will be on trying to get his side back competing at the peak of the table.
