Frank Lampard made an emotional return to Stamford Bridge as he took charge of his first Premier League match against Leicester in front of his adoring fans.

However, his Chelsea side could only draw 1-1 against Leicester despite taking an early lead.

After their 4-0 thrashing by Manchester United last week and Wednesday’s Super Cup penalty shootout defeat, Lampard really needed a win to really kickstart his managerial career in west London.

And it seemed as though Lampard told his players just that before kick-off because the Blues made a very fast start.

They could have scored on a couple of occasions before Mason Mount gave the home side the lead after seven minutes.

Mount robbed Wilfred Ndidi just outside Leicester’s box and fired past Kasper Schmeichel.

But Chelsea couldn’t continue that dominance into the second-half as Leicester looked dangerous on the counter-attack.

And with a little more than 20 minutes remaining, Ndidi made amends for his error with a terrific header from a James Maddison corner.

Just minutes later, Maddison had a glorious opportunity to give Leicester the lead but somehow blazed over after dancing his way into the penalty box.

The Foxes finished the stronger of the two sides and threatened to completely ruin Lampard's return but Chelsea held on for a point.

Next up for Lampard and Chelsea is a trip to newly-promoted Norwich next Saturday.
