Atletico Madrid got their La Liga campaign off to a good start with a 1-0 victory at home to Getafe.Diego Simeone handed debuts to Kieran Trippier and Joao Felix and both would make an impact during the game.Trippier, signed from Tottenham this summer, set up the only goal of the game after 23 minutes. The English right-back put in a brilliant cross which was headed home by former Chelsea striker, Alvaro Morata. And Felix would make his mark on the game in the second half.

A lot is expected of Felix. The Portuguese youngster was signed for €126 million as a replacement for Antoine Griezmann.

He made a name for himself at Benfica last season and he showed what the fuss is all about with a quite extraordinary solo run in the second half.

The 19-year-old picked up the ball midway through his own half and drove towards the Getafe goal.

He nutmegged the first defender with some quick feet before seeing off the challenge of another.

And Felix then showed he's got speed as well as trickery by outpacing a third defender before winning a penalty.

It really was an incredible run and you can watch it below:

And watch from another angle below...

This kid is seriously, seriously good.

Unfortunately all of Felix's hard work went to waste as Morata saw his resulting penalty saved by David Soria.

And his night would come to a premature end as he was subbed off with a muscle injury with 34 minutes remaining.

But it was still a very promising debut for the Portuguese wonderkid - and that's highlighted by his stats from the game.

According to Squawka, Felix completed both of his take-ons, won four fouls and three aerial duels.

He also recorded an interception and won a tackle during his 66 minutes on the pitch.

If Sunday's performance is anything to go by, he's going to be a very, very important player for Atletico this season.

Diego Simeone wants more from Felix after a promising debut.

"The first league game is not easy. It's complex," Simeone said, per Goal.

"We faced a team who tactically moves well defensively. They have not left him space in the first half so that he can take advantage of his game.

"But, as an individual, he showed his power and hopefully these situations appear more often. He has to keep improving."

He also brushed off fears about Felix's substitution.

"João is a cramp and we decided to remove it from the field, but that's fine," he said, per AS.
