Conor McGregor has had an eventful last week. The Irishman has been heavily criticised after footage emerged of him assaulting an older man in a pub in south Dublin back in April. The clip rightly caused uproar, with both McGregor critics and fans agreeing that he had stepped well over the line with this latest incident. One of the latest people to call out McGregor on his actions has been Irish middleweight boxer Luke Keeler, who took to Twitter to express his views on the situation.Keeler claimed it was ‘sad to see’ his fellow Irishman ‘stoop so low’, stating that he would be ‘happy to put him in his place if he had the balls to step in a ring again.’

Since tweeting this, Keeler, whose boxing record stands at 17-2-1, has claimed that talks over an all-Irish bout have taken place, with McGregor agreeing to take him on over the phone.

“I don’t want to get into it too much, but I know he wasn’t happy about the call out. He is not happy,” the 32-year-old told irishboxing.com, as per The Sun.

“The fight community in Ireland is small enough and Crumlin isn’t too far from Ballyfermot- and I heard he wasn’t happy with the timing of.

“He rang me and we had a few words. I told him the fight was there to be made and he was all for it. He agreed to fight over the phone.”

While McGregor has allegedly agreed to the fight, Keeler admits that the bout could still fail to come to fruition, challenging his fellow Dublin-born fighter’s courage.

“I agree it could be just all talk. Whether he has the balls or not to get in the ring again, never mind with me, we will have to see.

“He could have been just trying to front up or speaking in anger, but it got to the stage where I felt comfortable enough passing on to my management team.”

McGregor’s first experience of boxing came in 2017 when he was defeated by Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas.
