Paul Pogba spurned the opportunity to put Manchester United top of the Premier League table after failing to score a second-half penalty against Wolves at Molineux on Monday night.Ruben Neves had cancelled out Anthony Martial’s first-half opener with a stunning effort in the second half.Pogba then had the opportunity to put United back in front but was unable to beat Rui Patricio from the penalty spot.Ole Gunnar Solskjaer probably would have settled for a point away at Wolves prior to kick-off. His side were beaten twice at Molineux last season. But this will feel like two points dropped given the way his side dominated the opening 45 minutes and then had the chance to seal a second successive Premier League victory from the penalty spot following last weekend's 4-0 win over Chelsea.

United’s first-half performance was hugely impressive, with summer signings Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka once again impressing at the back.

The visitors dominated possession during the opening 45 minutes but struggled to create too many clear-cut opportunities against the home side, who were content to sit deep in their own half.

The first real chance came in the 18th minute when Rashford left Ryan Bennett on the floor before hitting a cross to the back-post where Martial really should have done better.

However, United’s new No. 9 made amends later in the half, finishing confidently after being played in again by his strike partner.

That was Martial’s 50th goal for United, who were excellent value for their one-goal lead.

Solskjaer must have been delighted with what he saw from his side in the first half and would have asked his players for more of the same.

However, whatever Nuno Espirito Santo said in the home dressing room at half-time clearly had the desired effect.

Wolves went close to equalising through Raul Jimenez, whose flicked header hit the post, moments before Neves produced his moment of magic to equalise.

The Portuguese midfielder took a couple of touches on the edge of the box before hitting an unstoppable shot which beat David de Gea and cannoned in off the underside of the bar.

VAR checked the goal and allowed it to stand following a comprehensive review.

A serious contender for August’s Premier League Goal of the Month award there.

Full of confidence following their equaliser, Wolves now looked the most likely team to secure all three points.

However, United were presented with a golden opportunity to re-take the lead in the 67th minute after being awarded a penalty.

Conor Coady took Pogba down inside the box - and the Frenchman stepped up to take the spot-kick, despite the fact Rashford successfully converted a penalty against Chelsea.

Unlike Rashford, Pogba failed to convert his penalty, much to the frustration of the travelling fans.

United pressed in search of a late winner but were unable to break down their opponents for a second time.

A point is a decent result for the Red Devils but it will feel bittersweet for Solskjaer and his players.
