Manchester United fans didn't have much to cheer about during their 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

It was all looking so promising at half-time when Anthony Martial had fired them into the lead, leaving them just 45 minutes away from topping the Premier League table.

However, despite more impressive showings from Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, United couldn't emerge with a clean sheet and Ruben Neves equalised with a stunning strike.

Then, of course, there was the moment the game will be remembered for with Paul Pogba stepping up to take a penalty for the visitors and seeing his effort deflected away by Rui Patricio.

Speaking after the game, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reflected: "We dominated possession, we get the first goal and second half we know they'll come out like a house on fire.

Lingard struggles vs Wolves

"First half was a mature performance. Second half was a bit sloppy. We are improving. We are a young team who will learn, we learned on the pitch today."

However, one player that frustrated United fans throughout the game at Molineux was Jesse Lingard, who was decidedly uncreative from the number 10 position.

The Englishman has become a divisive character amongst the club's fans for both his behaviour on and off the pitch, and his performance on Monday night did little to change things.

Lingard's awful Premier League form

Besides, the only note-worthy comment about Lingard certainly wasn't a positive one, with sports writer Duncan Alexander posting a viral statistic about the 26-year-old.

Remarkably, Lingard has neither produced a goal nor an assist in the Premier League in 2019 and December 2018 is the only month in which he has since the start of last season.

In other words, Lingard hasn't contributed to a single goal in 12 of the last 13 months of competitive Premier League action. Take a look at the full, damning statistic down below:

Oh dear, Jesse.

We're not sitting here pretending that Lingard is in anyway a bad player, but you simply have to be contributing more to goals when you're playing so high up the pitch for United.

Whatever inspired him to produce four goals and two assists back in December needs to be rekindled very soon and, most importantly, consistently maintained over several months.

Statistics aren't the be all and end all, but there are only so many 'good' performances that you can deliver without actually finding the net or creating that final opportunity.

And it's a statistic that could be the final nail in the coffin for a player who has long frustrated fans and simply isn't doing enough to vindicate his position in the starting XI.

At the very least, the data would suggest that Solskjaer could get an extra handful of goals by playing somebody in Lingard's place that could be crucial by the end of the season.
