Philippe Coutinho has the chance to reignite his career following his loan move to Bayern Munich - and he must take it.

The last 18 months have been dreadful for the 27-year-old, who completed a dream move to Barcelona from Liverpool in January 2018 but completely flopped.

It's hard to put a finger on exactly what went wrong for Coutinho, but what's certain is he doesn't have a future in Spain.

Barca have included an option to buy clause worth €120m in their agreement with Bayern, which indicates they're prepared to get rid of Coutinho permanently.

Simply put, it's been quite the fall from grace.

It's widely believed that Coutinho has a point to prove at Bayern and that sentiment was echoed by BT Sport on Monday, who posted the following on Instagram.

BT Sport's post attracted a lot of comments from Liverpool fans saying Coutinho should never have left and that he only has haters because he did.

It even prompted a certain Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to express his view, with the 26-year-old saying in a now-deleted comment: "He doesn't need to prove anything to anyone..."

Oxlade-Chamberlain is viewed as a class act by Liverpool fans and him defending Coutinho is yet another example of his honesty.

However, this isn't the first time he's come to his former teammate's defence.

Back in December 2017, after a 4-0 victory for Liverpool over Bournemouth, the Ox and Coutinho gave a joint post-match interview where the latter was interrogated over his future.

Coutinho was struggling to answer because of his poor English, so Oxlade-Chamberlain stepped in to help him out. Watch the interview below - or click HERE for the full story.

"He's a Liverpool player right now and he's doing really well for us," said Oxlade-Chamberlain. "He's been the most professional person I've seen all season.

"He's been top quality from the start and every time he gets on the pitch he does his all for the club. That's the most important thing right now.

"It's not fair to ask those kinds of questions I don't think. He gives us his all every game and that's all we can ask for."

And the reporter's response? "Well said."
