Cricket fans were treated to a bizarre moment earlier today as Leicestershire batsman Mark Cosgrove appeared to use his head to defend his wicket against Durham.During the four-day county game between the two teams, instead of trying to bat, Cosgrove seemed to think his head would be his best option. As the bowler began his run-up, all seemed relatively normal, with Cosgrove getting into position to defend his stumps. However, just as the ball was about to be delivered, the 35-year-old began walking down the wicket. Not something you see everyday when a fast bowler is steaming in at you.A pretty decent bouncer was then delivered, and looking rather uninterested, Cosgrove put his head in the way and headed the ball, with it eventually landing in the hands of the fielder in slip.

There has been a lot of talk about head injuries in the cricket world at the moment with injuries to Australia’s Steve Smith and England’s Jason Roy both raising concerns about concussion during The Ashes.

Smith, who is the leading run scorer in the series so far, will miss the third Test due to the injury he sustained on Saturday when he was hit by a vicious 92mph bouncer by Jofra Archer.

Watch the bizarre moment in the video below.

Luckily for Roy, he's been deemed fit enough to play, despite being hit in the head during a nets session in the lead-up to the third Test, which begins tomorrow at Headingley.

But that did not seem to concern Cosgrove, who produced a header that former Leicester sportsman Harry Maguire would be proud of.
