Virgil van Dijk is already a hero among Liverpool fans. The Dutch defender joined the club in January 2018 and immediately transformed their fortunes. He was an integral figure at the back as the club won the European Cup for the sixth time in their history last season. And he is now considered the best defender in the world and the favourite for the Ballon d'Or.Liverpool fans will hope that he stays at the club for the foreseeable future.

But one Liverpool supporter has already started thinking about what he would do if Van Dijk were to leave the club.

Brian, a 20-year-old lifelong Liverpool fan, rang up talkSPORT on Friday and claimed he would think about stopping supporting the club if Van Dijk were to leave for Barcelona.

"If Van Dijk were to god forbid leave us, I'd definitely think about leaving Liverpool and following him wherever he went. He's unbelievable," he said.

"If he were to leave for Barcelona, I'd certainly follow him, yeah. Because he'll make them a better side, like he made us a better side."

When asked who he'd be cheering on if Van Dijk left for Barcelona and then played against Liverpool, he replied: "I'd be cheering him on for sure. If he scored I'd be celebrating."

When Andy Goldstein asked if it would be the same story if he scored the winner, Brian replied: "I'd be 100% cheering, yeah."

He's then asked whether he's lying, to which he replies: "I'm not going to ring you up and spend all my money on the blower for you to tell me I'm a liar. I'm not lying. I'm telling you facts mate.

"He's the best player in the world at this minute and I'l support him wherever he goes. And if he did score against us, I would cheer.

"If Van Dijk scores, wherever it be, tap-in... screamer... I'd be cheering."
