Liverpool defeated Arsenal 3-0 in a one-sided contest at Anfield on Saturday.Joel Matip's opener and Mohamed Salah's brace handed Liverpool the win to maintain their 100% start to the season.Arsenal and trips to Anfield just really don't work out.The contest pitted the only teams in the Premier League with a perfect record against each other. It was Liverpool who looked most likely to open the scoring, spending much of the first half inside Arsenal territory.

Yet the Gunners were able to absorb Liverpool’s pressure and had chances themselves, with Nicolas Pepe coming close to opening the scoring in the 35th minute.

The Ivorian raced clear and skipped past Andy Robertson with a deft touch but his effort was fired straight at Adrian in the Liverpool goal.

Pepe, who earlier in the half became the first player to successfully dribble past Virgil van Dijk in the Dutch defender’s last 50 league appearances, was Arsenal’s main threat.

But all their hard work was undone in the 41st minute when Matip headed Liverpool in front from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s corner.

Remarkably, the right-back has nine assists in his last 10 appearances at Anfield.

He’s such a threat for Liverpool.

It was important for Arsenal not to concede too early in the second half.

Cue David Luiz conceding a penalty just two minutes after the restart.

The Brazilian, a summer signing from Chelsea, tugged Salah’s shirt.

It was so blatant that it didn’t even take VAR to spot the shirt pull.

Salah dispatched from the penalty spot and Arsenal were suddenly on the ropes.

Another Liverpool goal seemed inevitable and it came in brilliant fashion through Salah.

The Egyptian skinned Luiz before bearing down on goal and slotting past Bernd Leno.

Lucas Torreira scored a late goal for Arsenal but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation.

Liverpool are now the only team in the top flight with a 100% record.
