After hitting the ground running this season with two victories over Newcastle and Burnley respectively, Arsenal were hoping to maintain their 100% record when they came up against Liverpool yesterday.

However, it wasn’t to be as they fell to a 3-1 defeat at Anfield after a Mohamed Salah brace added to Joel Matip’s opener.

Those goals came before Lucas Torreira pulled one back for the visitors in what proved to be too little too late.

The result meant the Gunners have now gone seven seasons without coming out on top at Anfield.

And if that was bad enough, memories have to be cast back to 18th January 2015 to recall the last time Arsenal beat a ‘top six’ side on the road.

That day saw the Gunners beat Manchester City 2-0 at the Etihad courtesy of goals from Santi Cazorla and Olivier Giroud.

However, a month later is when their unwanted record started as they lost 2-1 away at Tottenham Hotspur.

And since then, the Gunners have failed to come out on top when travelling to the big guns, losing 15 times and drawing on eight occasions out of 23 games.

53 goals have also flown into their net off the boot of a ‘big six’ player during those games too.

Last season saw them lose 3-2 at Stamford Bridge in their second game on the season before they were forced to share the points away at Man United in December.

At the end of that month, the Gunners were humiliated at Anfield, losing 5-1 before finding themselves on the receiving end of a 3-1 score-line at the Etihad two months later.

A trip to Wembley awaited them in March when they played Spurs at their rivals’ temporary home and it remained the same story after drawing 1-1.

On a brighter note for Arsenal, their home form doesn’t follow the same pattern.

Last season saw the Gunners beat Spurs, Chelsea and Man United on home turf respectively whilst they also clinched a point against Liverpool too.

In just over a month’s time, Arsenal travel to Man United as they hope to make it 24th time lucky away at their fellow giants.
