Harry Maguire tasted his first defeat at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Manchester United's marquee summer signing was powerless to stop Jordan Ayew and Patrick van Aanholt firing Crystal Palace to a famous 2-1 win.

Maguire was heavily at fault for Ayew's opening goal, failing to read the situation and allowing the Ghanaian striker a free run at David de Gea's goal.

It was a return to reality for the English defender, who was on cloud nine after his stunning debut performance in the 4-0 win over Chelsea.

And the mocking of Maguire doesn't stop with his performance, because one football fan has noticed something rather odd about his running style.

Twitter user @YSAB87 posted a video of the centre-back from the defeat against Palace with the caption 'Maguire runs like he’s answering the phone whilst wearing a towel'.

Don't worry, we cannot unsee this either. Nor can we get the image of Homer Simpson answering the phone in a towel out of our heads.

It really is the perfect description of Maguire's inelegant - but effective - running style.

Due to his physical stature, he's never going to be able to glide across the turf like Cristiano Ronaldo.

Maguire and his defensive colleagues will have to regroup in training this week to prepare for their game away at Southampton on the weekend.

Luke Shaw has been ruled out for a month with a hamstring injury, meaning Ashley Young is set for a run in the team.

The onus will be on Maguire to make sure United's backline can cope with the changes to the staff at the back and keep the Saints' attack at bay.

A defeat on the south coast would be disastrous for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and would lead to questions over the £80m the Red Devils invested in Maguire.
