Ben Stokes' winning moment in the third Test with Peter Drury commentary

England v Australia - 3rd Specsavers Ashes Test: Day Four

Ben Stokes gave England one of their greatest victories ever to keep the Ashes series against Australia alive.

The remarkable moment was lived by every cricket fan in a different way, but a video has now emerged that could just top the lot.

Football commentary can be iconic for so many reasons. The very best in the business capture moments like no other, and one of those people is Peter Drury.

So, what happens when you add Stokesy's magical moment and Drury on the microphone? You get gold, that's what!

It was the performance of the summer which led England to an unprecedented and unthinkable victory at Headingley to keep the Ashes alive. Like he did in his innings six weeks ago, Stokes launched a stunning solo assault.

Stokes now matches Sir Ian Botham as the Headingley hero, and after the win, he said: “It hasn't quite sunk in. I know we've won the game but I'm pretty tired. A great day.

“We came in to the day with a chance but it's never over until it's over. At nine down with 70 left it was obvious what was to be done. I only got nervous when we were down below 10 needed but I had my pitching wedge at a perfect length.

“I couldn't look when Jack Leach was batting. I was just waiting for the reaction of the crowd! It's amazing."

About Ben Stokes, Sir Ian Botham said: “It takes a remarkable man to do that and I said this morning that someone needed to front up and be strong.

“I've banged the Ben Stokes drum for a long time now and I know when other players see him, they think there is something special about him. He is the 'Special One'.”

England’s Stuart Broad told Sky Sports: “It was one of those 'I was there' moments. It was absolutely spectacular. I don't think anyone in this ground will see a better innings. It had everything.

“The bloke has got the heart of a lion. Everything he does is for the team. He is the perfect team-mate. He's an incredible cricketer and an even better bloke."
