Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain held a summit today to discuss the future of Neymar.

The Brazilian is desperate to re-sign for the Blaugrana after two years in the French capital, but the Ligue 1 champions are not prepared to let him go easily.

According to Sport, a deal was not agreed today, but there was progress made and Barca are satisfied that Neymar will not be moving to bitter rivals Real Madrid this summer.

PSG demanded a fee of €100m plus Ousmane Dembele and Nelson Semedo for the Brazilian, while Barca are prepared to bid €170m, paid in two instalments.

While no agreement is in place as of yet, it looks likely that Neymar will be moving back to Catalonia before the September 2 deadline.

And one man that will please is Lionel Messi, because the Argentine is aware of how important Neymar's presence could be in challenging for the Champions League.

Journalist Josep Pedrerol, speaking on El Chiringuito, states that: "Messi knows that to win the Champions League, he needs Neymar at any cost."

That 4-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield is going to cost Barca a lot of money.

The Blaugrana took a 3-0 lead into that game, but were on the end of one of the most ridiculous comebacks in Champions League history.

Had they progressed and claimed their sixth European Cup - Messi's fifth - pursuing a deal for Neymar may not have been necessary.

The last time Barca won the Champions League in 2015, the Brazilian was instrumental, scoring 10 goals in total - level with Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Neymar also scored Barca's third and final goal in the 3-1 win over Juventus in the final.

Unless Dembele can replicate that level of consistency, Messi is always going to miss his former partner-in-crime.
