Ludogorets' Wanderson celebrated goal by kissing his wife - but it was disallowed

Wanderson's celebration didn't go to plan...

There are not many things more embarrassing for a footballer than celebrating a goal prematurely.

The awkwardness a player must feel when they sprint down the touchline and do a knee slide, only to turn around and see a raised offside flag is surely off the chart.

With the introduction of VAR this season in the Premier League, we're likely to see a lot of celebrations ruined by disallowed goals.

But those can be forgiven. What can't be forgiven is a player performing a very elaborate celebration for a disallowed goal when there is no technology involved.

But that's exactly what happened to Ludogorets' Brazilian forward Wanderson.

In the Bulgarian side's game against Slavia Sofia on Sunday evening, the 31-year-old thought he had scored a crucial late winner for Ludogorets in front of their home fans.

He was so happy that he decided to run into the stands to give his wife a little kiss.

The only problem? The goal had been ruled out for offside and Slavia's goalkeeper was whacking the ball down the pitch while he was still in the stands.

And just to rub salt into Wanderson's wounds, he wasn't even offside!

Have you ever seen an attempted celebration as embarrassing as that? You almost feel for Wanderson.

Ludogorets went on to draw 0-0 with Slavia, missing their chance to leapfrog Levski Sofia to go top of the table.

You have to feel for Wanderson

If only they had VAR to correctly award Wanderson's late goal and spare the Brazilian's blushes at the same time.
