Bury FC have been expelled from the English Football League. On a sad day for football in this country, the historic club has been thrown into limbo after a takeover bid from C&N Sporting Risk collapsed at the last minute.Despite romping their way to promotion from League Two last season, the financial troubles at Gigg Lane robbed them of any chance to build on their on-pitch success. The club shop lay desolate for large periods of the summer, manager Ryan Lowe decided to move on to Plymouth Argyle and unpaid wages continued to snowball throughout 2019.In the end, Bury were simply unable to enter the new season and saw their opening game against MK Dons suspended, with the EFL demanding that the club showed their financial viability.

Bury expelled from the EFL

However, a ball would simply never be kicked by The Shakers as they were booted out of the Carabao Cup and the EFL drew a line after six consecutive games were scrapped.

As a result, League One will now be comprised of just 23 teams for the foreseeable future, but there are also concerns that Bolton Wanderers could meet the same fate as Bury.

At the eye of this worrying storm is Steve Dale, who allegedly took over the club without full EFL approval and has been involved with 43 other businesses that went into liquidation.

Shocking Dale interview

And the man himself isn't doing himself any favours after a BBC Radio 5 Live interview from last week went viral for all the wrong reasons.

Dale sensationally claimed that he didn't even know there was a football club in Bury, that he doesn't even like the sport anyway and that fans are too busy 'full of beer.'

"I never went to Bury," Dale admitted during the programme. "It’s not a place I frequented. So for me to walk away from Bury and never go back is a very easy thing to do. I don’t do anything up there.

"I didn’t even know there was a football team called Bury to be honest with you. ‘I’m not a football fan.’

"I think it’s fantastic they [Bury fans] are passionate but what they need to do is temper it, and not be silly, and not show themselves up by disgraceful behaviour when they’re full of beer, and discredit the club."

When the whole situation is considered, it's beggar belief that Dale would deliver quotes like these and replies such as 'disgraceful' in the comments were simply inevitable.

What next for Bury FC?

And an alarming amount of the conversation has been aired in the public domain, with former Bury skipper Neil Danns aiming a message for the club owner via the medium of talkSPORT.

"This should never have happened." the midfielder commented. "If you thought you could not move this club forward in a positive way you should never have taken over because you've literally destroyed lives, because that's what this football club meant to so many fans.

"When you see the devastation of the fans I just think I have to say something. It's unbelievable. I still can't believe it."
