Every English side's best and worst case scenario for Champions League group stage draw

Liverpool v Chelsea: UEFA Super Cup

The Champions League group stage draw will take place in Monaco at 5pm BST on Thursday.

English sides dominated last season's edition of the tournament.

Manchester United and Manchester City bowed out at the last eight stage, while Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur contested the final in Spain.

It was the Reds who would end up winning the title with a 2-0 victory over the London side.

Liverpool, Tottenham and Man City will complete once again this season and will be joined by Europa League winners, Chelsea.

Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea will all be in Pot 1, while Tottenham will be in Pot 2.

Pot 1
Liverpool, Chelsea, Barcelona, Manchester City, Juventus, Bayern Munich, PSG, Zenit

Pot 2
Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Napoli, Shakhtar Donetsk, Tottenham, Benfica, Ajax

Pot 3
Bayer Leverkusen, Red Bull Salzburg, Olympiacos, Valencia, Inter Milan, Dinamo Zagreb, Club Brugge, Lyon

Pot 4

Liverpool won the Champions League last season

And here's every English side's best and worst case scenario for the Champions League group stage draw...

Easiest draw for Man City/Liverpool/Chelsea: Shakhtar Donetsk, Dinamo Zagreb, Slavia Prague

Hardest draw for Man City/Liverpool/Chelsea: Real Madrid, Inter Milan, RB Leipzig

Liverpool, City and Chelsea will be hoping to stay clear of Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid in particular from Pot 2.

Although there would be no easy games, being drawn against Shakhtar or Benfica would be favourable.

Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea could draw Real Madrid

Leverkusen, Valencia and Inter Milan would all pose tough tests in Pot 3, while the team to avoid in Pot 4 is RB Leipzig.

Galatasary would also be a tough place to go, as would Red Star Belgrade. Liverpool found out the hard way with a 2-0 loss in Serbia last season.

Easiest draw for Tottenham: Zenit, Dinamo Zagreb, Slavia Prague

Hardest draw for Tottenham: Barcelona, Inter Milan, RB Leipzig

Every English side will be looking to avoid Antonio Conte's Inter Milan

Tottenham are almost guaranteed to face a European giant from Pot 1.

The team they will be praying to draw is undoubtedly Russian champions, Zenit.

The teams to avoid in Pot 3 and Pot 4 are the same as the other three English sides.
