Pro Wrestling Illustrated's famed 'Top 500' wrestlers of the year list was released today, and for the first time since 2016, a WWE superstar came out on top.In 2017, Japanese sensation Kazuchika Okada was named the number one after a brilliant run as IWGP Heavyweight Champion and his feud with Kenny Omega drew rave reviews - their match at Wrestle Kingdom at the beginning of the year getting six stars from Dave Meltzer. And then a year later, Omega was the recipient after a stellar year which saw him win the IWGP Title for the first time, and a two-out-of-three falls match against Okada was given seven stars by Meltzer. The WWE dominance has resurfaced though in 2019, and Seth Rollins has found himself at the top of the PWI mountain this year. It's not the first time the Kingslayer has been named as number one, first winning the award in 2015 after winning the WWE Championship for the first time, although that year ended with a horrific knee injury.

But after defeating Brock Lesnar twice and stealing the show on multiple occasions, Rollins has become a two-time winner.

WWE have in-fact dominated the top four, with Daniel Bryan, AJ Styles and Kofi Kingston taking up second, third and fourth places respectively.

The highest-placed non-WWE superstar is former number one Okada, who ranks at number five for his 2019, where he won the New Japan Cup and regained his World Heavyweight Title.

NXT's Johnny Gargano makes it to sixth place, beating out Roman Reigns who is in at number seven - the beginning of his year blighted with his recovery from leukaemia.

The top 10 is rounded out by three non-WWE talents - with last years winner Omega finding himself at number eight.

That may be because he was inactive for the first few months due to leaving NJPW and waiting for All Elite Wrestling's first show, but we may well see him back on top in 2019 when AEW is broadcast on a weekly basis.

Ninth and tenth place belong to New Japan stars Hiroshi Tanahashi and British high-flyer Will Ospreay, who was recently involved in a social media spat with this year's crowning star Rollins.
