Manchester United legend Eric Cantona was presented UEFA's President Award on Thursday night in recognition of his commitment to helping improve the lives of others.

In front of a high-profile audience featuring big names like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, the Frenchman accepted the award wearing a flat cap, pink shirt and chinos.

Everyone else was dressed in suits, but you'd expect nothing else from Cantona.

Once handed the award, Cantona was asked by the host, "What's going through your mind right now?" to which he gave the most bizarre response.

Even Messi and Ronaldo were sat in the crowd with bemused faces as Cantona spoke about science and how wars will kill us.

"As flies to wanton boys, we are for the Gods," he began. "They kill us for the sport.

"Soon the science will not only be able to throw down the ageing of the cells, the science will fix the cells to the state, and so we'll become... only accidents, crimes, wars will still kill us.

But unfortunately, crimes and wars will multiply. I love football. Thank you.

Cantona being... Cantona.

But of course, this is a man who said: "When seagulls follow the trawler it is because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea," after kung-fu kicking a Crystal Palace fan in 1995.
