Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi were reunited at the UEFA Champions League draw in Monaco on Thursday.

The two superstars haven’t come face to face since Ronaldo left Real Madrid for Juventus last summer.

And as finalists for the UEFA Men’s Player of the Year award alongside Virgil van Dijk, they were sat next to each other.

Ronaldo and Messi shook hands after meeting.

They also exchanged a few words. That’s one conversation we would love to have heard.

It was Van Dijk who beat the two footballing legends to the main award.

A richly deserved individual accolade for the Dutch defender, who helped the Reds win last season’s Champions League.

Before that, however, the award for UEFA’s Best Forward was announced - and a video of Ronaldo’s reaction was immediately shared on social media.

Look at his face. Just look at his face!

In fairness to Cristiano, he did shake Messi’s hand as the Argentina superstar took his seat.

But Van Dijk looked a little more pleased for the Barça idol.

You have to love Ronaldo’s competitive streak.

He hates losing at anything - especially, you’d imagine, against Messi.

That’s one of the main reasons why he’s enjoyed such an extraordinary career.
