Liverpool's 2019 has been nothing short of spectacular.

The Reds won their sixth European Cup back in June after beating Tottenham 2-0 in the final.

Their success in Europe was on the back of their finest ever Premier League season, finishing with 97 points in total.

Had it not been for Pep Guardiola's all-conquering Manchester City side, they would have strolled to the title.

But their Champions League success illustrates the progress they have made under Jurgen Klopp and the awards rolled in once again last night in Monaco.

During the Champions League draw, Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk were awarded numerous accolades.

Alisson scooped the UEFA Goalkeeper of the Year, while Van Dijk collected both the UEFA Defender of the Year and the UEFA Men's Player of the Year.

Liverpool's two most expensive signings have been worth every penny and after their success, it's worth remembering one man; Philippe Coutinho.

Had the Reds not sold the Brazilian for £142m to Barcelona back in January of 2018, they probably wouldn't have been able to finance moves for both Van Dijk and Alisson.

Liverpool got quite an incredible deal, didn't they?

When Klopp's side first offloaded Coutinho, the general consensus was that the team would regress due to his importance.

But ever since his departure, Liverpool have developed into one of the world's finest teams.

The balance in midfield has never been better and the front three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino continue to the business up top.

In reality, Coutinho wouldn't even get back into the Liverpool team right now after his woeful spell at Barca, which has resulted in a loan deal to Bayern Munich.

Coutinho's sale surely has to be one of the greatest transfer deals in football history.
